The Message: A Poem

I have something to tell you...


I've surrendered to the thought of you
A long time ago.
I've waited for you anxiously
To realize that I am what you need

I wait by the various forms of electronic
communication for you to fill this void.
My throat closes up
My hands shake.
and I realize maybe this wasn't such a good idea.

But we march on....
Because my bed is cold without you.
My right brain is taking over.
when my left brain really should

The crazy thing is I want you to feel excitement over me
In your toes like electric shock waves
chakras aligning
I wake up and praise the sun...


No....this isn't what I want to say.
I'm not done.
I feel like heartbeats are digitally remastered
set against some bossa nova of old...

I'm rambling now....
Shit..I'm stumbling somehow
Tripping over my words and making no sense
was I always like this around you?










*sigh*



Well...here goes nothing..





I'm in love with you.


That's all I wanted to say :)

Frat Boys, Toxic Masculinity and the #METOO Movement

(scene from Spike Lee's famous School Daze) A few weeks ago, my sorority held its national convention on New Orleans. Coincidently, another fraternity was also holding their national convention in New Orleans. Naturally, the jokes, mostly in jest, played upon the fact that these two groups, full of single, attractive and smart folks would be "on the prowl" and looking to "hook up" in the city known for its strong drinks, Southern heat, and hospitality. It was all jokes until nastiness decided to rear its ugly head. You had men in the other fraternity sexually harassing and being obscene to my sorority sisters who just wanted to have fun and handle the business of the sorority (and network.. and yes.. meet men in a somewhat safe space).  There were stories of men groping women.
