Pans, Bands, and Sammies

So it was floating all around Facebook and social media today. .the article from the NY Post about a young black woman, Stephani Smith, a page six reporter for the very own Post that publishes this foolywang article, who declares that she wil make 300 sammiches for her boyfriend to propose to her. Let's file this under: Girl..you are DTM (as my fiance' would say): DOING THE MOST... *side eye*  I know women who have done FAR MORE..for FAR LESS...but MochaPeach is not the one. Now..before I go into a feminist tirade...trust me...I won't be doing that.  My fiance' and I LOVE to cook together. Food is our way we communicate our love to each other.....but honey girlfriend..was doing a lot. I can count the number of sandwiches I've made Beau....and I got a ring.... *shrug* Hell...all that man wanted from me was potato skins......real talk. ANd I made them.... ...and here we are. But I digress. After I read the opening line of the article...talking about ...

Crock Pot Chick in a Microwave World.

It's too many microwave b*tches in this world. No...I'm not talking about moving fast...or going too fast or too modern (well..wait..I am). I mean actual chicks who know NOTHING of cooking but a damn microwave. I mean they may boil some water in a microwave for some instant ramen at that. I am a  very southern girl (duh..hence the blog name). At 5 years old, I was in my little matching apron, making pancakes and biscuits with my grandmother, having her sneak me the dough to eat..and cutting it with a battered tin biscuit cutter....etc. So it totally BAFFLES my mind that these broads nowada...

Stepping out the Box (part 2): Finding my Inner "Julia"

I've always been a good cook. No. A GREAT cook . I come from a long line of cooks in my family: Southern women who could whip up just about anything. From peach cobblers to the best pot of collard greens to even stir-fry...my family has great cooks (men included. My uncle Sonny and my cousin Ant are EXCELLENT cooks!). I think the greatest compliment I ever got was from my parents. My mother said "I know I fry pretty good chicken but, baby, your chicken is WAY better than mine!". My dad smiled and nodded his head in agreement. When I was married, nothing fulfilled me more than to see my husband with a full belly and a smile on his face. When the food was good, I could practically get him to do anything. (LOL). I love to host parties and try new recipes. I watch Food Network all the time and I even collect cookbooks and belong to a recipe-exchange club. I try as often as I can to release my inner Julia/B.Smith/Martha Stewart/Barefoot Contessa (LOL). I recently hosted a Game ...
